2020 US election! - Part 2

We have just heard that Donald Trump has lost this race! I will keep this very brief, however I will say that I believe this is very necessary in the fight against climate change. Joe Biden will not take power until 20th January, but that day will be a turning point in this global battle!

2020 US election! - Part 1

I am writing this the night of the 2020 US elections, aware that I will be waking up early tomorrow morning, to learn who exactly has won.

You may be wondering what any of this has to do with the theme of this blog. Well, the 'defending champion' Donald Trump has said many things about climate change ranging from: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-conpetative" and "The weather has been so cold for so long that the global warming HOAXTERS were forced to change the name to climate change to keep the $ flow!" or even just more simply "I don't believe it". These statements range to: "I don't think it's a hoax, I think there's probably a difference. But I don't know that it's manmade" and "The environment is very important to me. Someone wrote a book that I'm an environmentalist".

Whatever he actually believes, I think it's fair to say that the climate is not his biggest worry.

Joe Biden, on the other hand, can be summed up by one statement - "[climate thange is the] number one issue facing humanity" and his $2 trillion climate plan that puts the US on a path to zero carbon pollution from the electricity sector by 2035, and net-zero emissions by 2050.

Here are the facts:

If we are to keep warming at 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, then global emissions must be down by 7.6% each year until 2030 when we need net-zero worldwide emissions. If we have someone in the White House for another 4 years who does not care about climate change, then the rest of the world will be forced to carry America's slack to get emissions down until 2024, which we cannot afford to do, however America very much can. We NEED America's help here!

Virtual lobby!

During this time of lockdown, you would think there is no way to keep supporting the climate. Well you are wrong. If you live in Britain, sign up to https://www.theclimatecoalition.org/ you can be part of history by joining the first virtual climate lobby on 30th June, grabbing a cup of tea and talking to your MP. For more info go to the above website or watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wg30rRkXTM&feature=youtu.be
See you then!

Could COVID-19 delay climate change? (part 2)

It is likely that global carbon emissions this year will see their steepest fall since the second world war. Sadly, this won't stop climate change.
It is predicted that we will see a fall in emissions between 4.2% and 7.5% on last year, while a rise of around 1% had been expected this year!
The planet saw a drop of 1,048 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in the first four months of 2020. The fall, however, is expected to be somewhere between 1,524 and 2,729 million tonnes this year.
This, however, will make little dent in future warming as even a 5% drop would be equivalent to 0.001℃ less warming.

Could COVID-19 delay climate change?

With factories across the world closing and less people travelling, we are seeing deep declines in greenhouse gas emissions across the world...
The cause of all of this?
Coronavirus (COVID-19 to be specific)
What many people across the world are fearing and has now killed 10,000 could also be what is going to save us from our self-sentenced doom.
This is the case for two main reasons (both previously mentioned) which have both happened to attempt stopping the spread of the virus.
Leave a comment bellow if you are glad about at least this one thing!
